Sahuarita, Arizona is a rapidly growing town in southern Arizona. Just 15 miles south of Tucson, Sahuarita offers excellent economic prospects, a bounty of historical and cultural attractions, unparalleled opportunities for outdoor recreation, and gorgeous views of the surrounding desert canyons and rugged mountain peaks.
The first known human inhabitants of the Sahuarita region were the Hohokam people, known for their highly innovative and extensive use of irrigation. The Spanish arrived some 1500 years later, first building a series of missions in the region and establsihing the colony of Tucson in 1775. In 1854, following the Gadsden Purchase, Sahuarita would become a part of the Territory of Arizona, in the United States of America. Primarily an Indian settlement until 1879, when James Kilroy Brown built a ranch bearing the town’s present name, Sahuarita served as a trade hub for two new highways and the Southern Pacific Railroad.
The next century brought a succession of industries, including cotton farming and military training operations, but it wasn’t until the late 1990’s that Sahuarita saw significant residential expansion. The recently completed Sahuarita Lake provides water for the town and other settlements in the Upper Santa Cruz Valley, with a growing array of fish, birds and other wildlife under maintained by the Arizona State Department of Game and Fish. Recreational attractions include Pena Blanca Lake, Arivaca Lake, Madera Canyon, Kitt Peak Observatory, the Tohono O’Odham Indian Reservation and the Titan II Missile Museum. The town supports a growing economic base in tourism and the service industry, with the neighboring retirement community of Green Valley just one among several managed residential areas. Situated along Interstate 19, Sahuarita offers easy access to the city of Tucson and the international border with Mexico.

Climate
Due to its great size and variations in elevation, the state of Arizona has greatly varying climate conditions from one area to another. Population:
One of the fastest-growing states in the nation, Arizona has a population of over 6.1 million, an increase of more than 1 million since the year 2000. The state's population is largely concentrated in the metropolitan areas of Phoenix and Tucson, the state's two largest cities. While there are smaller population centers around Yuma (in the southwest corner) and Flagstaff (in north-central Arizona), vast areas of the state remain largely uninhabited, due in great part to the desert climate.
